Troubleshooting .MP4 Video in Windows Movie Maker

saw your posts on movie maker...
Previously I had it working fine, and did a few movies already. But now its been strange and doesn't play MP4 anymore. Infact, Media Player also won't play MP4 when previously its ok.
Has it got to do with problem with Quicktime you think? I installed QT and uninstalled it recently cos it was hanging.
Any suggestions?
