Troubleshooting Boot Disks and Boot Order

Posted by Plasma Productions on November 14, 2008 at 4:12 PM

Question:

I was told to re-install Windows XP.  When I turn the computer on with the install disk inserted into the drive, it just boots up to Windows without loading the install disk.  I am not sure what to do.

Answer:

Chances are, the boot sequence is set to boot from the hard drive before the CD drive.  Enter BIOS by pressing the F8 or F12 key (or whatever key combination your computer uses ? the proper key combination should be displayed on your computer next to ?setup? as soon as you turn your computer on) and use BIOS to change the boot order so that your computer boots from CD before it boots from your hard drive.
